Voted for the SAVE Act Requiring Proof of Citizenship to Vote in Federal Elections
2025-04-10
The SAVE Act serves as a voter suppression tactic in that it requires voters to provide proof of citizenship in order to vote. States could require voters to bring their birth certificates to the polls, and disqualify voters whose married names haven't been coordinated across different forms of ID. It creates an administrative burden, requiring women whose married name does not match their birth certificate to correct those records lest they be turned away at the polls. It presents obstacles to troops stationed overseas, Native Americans and disabled people that cannot physically get to a voter registration location to show such proof.
